The GGO Team

The Global Gender Office (GGO) is comprised of technical experts and policy advisers, on-the-ground practitioners, skilled trainers, innovative researchers, and accomplished project and budget managers. The core team members, while reporting to the Washington, D.C., office, are located in numerous countries around the world.

 

Jenny Springer is an anthropologist with over 20 years of experience working on indigenous and community land rights, community-based natural resource management, and social dimensions of conservation. She joined IUCN as Director of the Global Programme on Governance and Rights in October 2018.

As Senior Officer of the GGO, Cate Owren does a little bit of everything across the team’s portfolio of work, including by supporting management and communications, project development and delivery, internal and external relations, stakeholder coordination and resource mobilization.

Jackie Siles is a Senior Project Coordinator for the GGO, focusing on the nexus of gender and environment and development in the Mesoamerican, Andean Amazon and African regions.

As the Communications Officer to the GGO, Jamie is responsible for the GGO’s strategic communications. With an approach rooted in stakeholder analyses and strategic planning, Jamie is a communications and advocacy specialist with experience across international organizations and diplomatic institutions.

Maria Prebble is a Programme Officer for the GGO where she supports the Advancing Gender in the Environment (AGENT) energy and forestry and biodiversity (FAB) portfolios.

Emmett Boyer coordinates IUCN GGO’s inputs into the 16-country Shared Resources, Joint Solutions programme, supports various other GGO projects, and contributes to the generation of knowledge products in their capacity as a Programme Officer for the GGO.

Seline Meijer is a Programme Officer with IUCN’s Global Programme for Governance and Rights. Seline supports several projects within the Global Gender Office, including the USAID funded Advancing Gender in the Environment (AGENT) partnership and the Gender and Environment Statistics project with UN Environment.

Itza Castaneda is a Gender and Sustainable Development Special Adviser with the GGO. Itzá has almost 20 years of experience in projects and initiatives involving public policy development, building local institutions, and the incorporation of gender issues into development. She has worked in various capacities for a number of international and national organizations in Mexico and Latin America as a researcher and consultant adviser, while also teaching and training on gender equality and development.

Ana Rojas, Gender and Energy Task Manager, GECCO

Ana Victoria Rojas is the Gender and Energy Task Manager for the GGO's Gender Equality for Climate Change Opportunities (GECCO) programme. She is a sustainable development specialist with 15 years of experience working with policy makers, program practitioners, international organizations, NGO’s and grassroots level organizations.

Laura Sabater is an intern for the GGO and supports the Environment and Gender Information (EGI) platform analyzing documents in Spanish, French and English, as well as supporting other projects.

April Krueger is a Digital Communications Consultant for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Global Gender Office. April is responsible for supporting digital communications strategies to maximise GGO’s webinars, knowledge products, online platforms, social media channels and creating a new IUCN platform for EGI.

At IUCN, Safia contributes media content to the Global Programme on Governance and Rights’ Global Gender Office, helping ensure IUCN delivers current content that represents the voices and faces of the women around the world that live lives deeply and intrinsically linked the environment.

Briana Mawby is a consultant for the GGO, where she supports the Advancing Gender in the Environment (AGENT).

Celia Steele has over 25 years of experience as an administrative assistant in international environmental and conservation organizations, working in areas involving productive projects, agriculture, gender, and the environment. Since 2009, she has been the Global Gender Office’s Administrative Assistant, coordinating project budgets, travel and logistics office-wide.

Tia is from China and recently completed her Master of Accountancy from the George Washington University School of Business. Tia has worked as Accounting Intern, Grants and Contract Intern and Risk Management Intern at different organizations in Washington D.C. and China. She is also a CPA candidate.

Lorena Aguilar has held the position of Global Senior Gender Adviser and head of the GGO since 2002, following more than a decade with IUCN. She has more than 30 years of experience providing assistance to international organizations, governments, and universities on gender policy, gender equality, and women's empowerment, as well as on water, forests, environmental health, and disaster risk reduction.
