This event is hosted by Practical Action.
The gender dimensions of clean energy access are increasingly being recognized; however, this is largely in regards to women’s voice in energy planning and the potential benefits to women and girls of improved clean energy and cooking technology. Women are rarely seen as agents of change in energy access markets, yet evidence demonstrates addressing this missing middle is vital for achieving gender-transformative outcomes and more effective energy access approaches. This CSW session will therefore explore successful approaches to achieving women’s economic empowerment through clean energy access value chains, drawing upon experiences from Kenya, and other areas of Practical Action’s work with women entrepreneurs. To explore this topic, Practical Action will be joined by fantastic speakers from Solar Sister, Smiling Through Light and Energy Research Institute Sudan.
