Cookstove Distribution and Financing”
With funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Winrock International has spent the last 5 years developing and promoting innovative partnerships and solutions to overcome distribution and financing challenges in the cookstove sector, and make stoves more affordable and accessible for consumers.
Since 2013, with support from and in partnership with dozens of organizations around the globe, the project has been working to strengthen and expand distribution networks for cookstoves, and support the development of sustainable financing mechanisms for both consumers and enterprises. Winrock and USAID have also expanded training opportunities in business, agency-based empowerment and leadership for cookstove sales staff and entrepreneurs throughout the region through Empowered Entrepreneur Training Programs (EETPs), which include a Training Certification Program, training roll-out for entrepreneur networks, and impact monitoring. This unique training program was designed to meet the specific needs of female entrepreneurs in the clean energy sector but is applicable to both men and women, and across other sectors.
As the project ends, we are eager to share our lessons learned to ensure forward momentum on the progress made by DSCS activities.
The full-day event will feature presentations, panels and discussions with project partners on key results and lessons learned in developing household energy-focused credit facilities and growing partnerships between manufacturers, distributors and financial institutions in Kenya; outcomes of innovative Kenyan consumer financing pilots; results of a DSCS cookstove distribution study; and an overview and discussion of the business and personal impacts from the project’s EETPs rolled out across East Africa and South Asia, which have included increased sales, improved sales strategies, greater retention, and higher levels of promotion.
