In Nepal many rural women are very dependent on natural resources such as firewood, fodder, water and traditional medicines, but they are often excluded from decision-making about their forests, and sometimes have difficulty accessing the resources they need. As part of its GESI work the Hariyo Ban Program realized it needed to tackle gender-based violence in order for women to participate more fully and safely in community forest management and sharing of forest benefits.

The Climate-Gender-Conflict Nexus
The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security provides an overview of the linkages within the climate-gender-conflict nexus. It explores the climate change and conflict nexus with a gender lens, identifies gaps in frameworks, policies, knowledge and evidence, and presents best practice studies from Colombia, Sudan and Nepal. The report calls for policymakers and practitioners to invest in research and policy on the nexus to build evidence on women’s meaningful engagement for successfully addressing these challenges.
