The Alto Mayo landscape in Peru is home to 14 Awajún communities and has some of the highest rates of deforestation in the country. Awajún women face social and economic disadvantages due to their gender. See how a RISE grants challenge project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) led by Conservation International Foundation (CI) and local partner PROMSEX to implement the Alto Mayo Landscape Without Gender Violence project. The project shifted harmful gender norms and beliefs about women’s and men’s roles in society, the sanctioning of violence, and community processes for dealing with violence in Peru’s Nuwas Forest.
