Worldwide, tourism is particularly important sector for women, who make up to 46% of the tourism labor force. Developing tourism policies and programs which appropriately address the specific needs and requirements of men and women, while conserving natural resources, is essential for sustainable development. Gender equity tourism policies can challenge traditional roles and stereotypes in the workforce and facilitate women’s empowerment.
This fact-sheet highlights the goals of Egypt’s climate change gender action plan which include mainstreaming gender considerations into national climate change initiatives and policies. Egypt’s priority areas are coastal management, agriculture, water, tourism, health, energy, transport, urbanization, and waste management.
