AGENT Webinar: Gender-Based Violence and Environment Linkages – Stories and strategies for change, a spotlight conversation with the Hariyo Ban Program

In Nepal many rural women are very dependent on natural resources such as firewood, fodder, water and traditional medicines, but they are often excluded from decision-making about their forests, and sometimes have difficulty accessing the resources they need. As part of its GESI work the Hariyo Ban Program realized it needed to tackle gender-based violence in order for women to participate more fully and safely in community forest management and sharing of forest benefits.

Cette publication établit que ces modèles de VBG sont observés dans tous les contextes environnementaux, affectant la sécurité et le bien-être des nations, des communautés et des individus, et compromettant la réalisation des Objectifs de développement durable (ODD). Bien que les liens entre VBG et questions environnementales soient complexes et se produisent à de multiples échelles, ces menaces aux droits humains et à la santé des écosystèmes ne sont pas insurmontables.

Gender-based violence and environment linkages during COVID-19: Information note, Second edition: November 2020

In April 2020, anticipating a rise in gender-based violence (GBV) in relation to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the IUCN Global Programme on Governance and Rights prepared an information note to support awareness amongst conservation and sustainable development stakeholders about potential risks and to consider ways to anticipate and address them. Over the last few months, significant evidence has emerged in relation to these trends, as well as some promising practice and recommendations to inform future gender-responsive conservation and sustainable development efforts.
