Advancing Gender in the Environment: Accelerating impact for equality and sustainability – A review of AGENT’s reach and results (October 2018-September 2019)

The work presented in this AGENT annual review for the 2019 Fiscal Year (October 1, 2018 – September 30, 2019) demonstrates that investments in gender equality and women’s empowerment strengthen Bureau and Mission-level capacities to meet USAID’s objectives and mandates on gender equality, and compel wider stakeholder action.

Mainstreaming gender in regional biodiversity projects

AGENT provided gender technical support for USAID’s Regional Coastal Biodiversity Project in Central America (RCBP). This included a gender analysis for one of the project sites where information was gathered by conducting workshops and focus groups with local women and men.

Mother Earth and Resource Extraction (MERE) Hub

Digital resource hub developed for and in consultation with women land and water defenders who are at the forefront in the protection of the environment, in Canada and across the globe. The hub brings together a range of original and existing material to support research, advocacy, information sharing, and movement building around the subject of resource extraction and its gendered implications, including gender-based violence.

Fishing For Equality and Sustainability

Based on a report on gender and fisheries by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), USAID has launched a Learning Initiative to study the linkages between women’s empowerment, access to finance and sustainable fisheries management. Read on to learn about the recent IUCN-facilitated workshop that took place in Accra, Ghana.
