Synopsis

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), women’s access to land and property is central to women’s empowerment, yet both customary and formal laws discriminate against women, placing them at high risk of experiencing multiple forms of GBV. See a snapshot of how a RISE grants challenge project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and led by Women for Women International (WfWI) in partnership with Innovation and Training for Development and Peace (IFDP) addressed this issue. Rising Up! Promoting Congolese Women’s Land Access and Preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Eastern DRC promoted women’s rights and improved women’s access to land and GBV referral systems.
