Wildlife can transmit zoonotic diseases to humans through direct and indirect contact and wildlife trafficking plays a key role in that. Research on this linkages is growing, however the social and mental health dimensions of zoonotic diseases have not been well studied. This chapter from the book “Women and Wildlife Trafficking: Participants, Perpetrators and Victims” explores the health implications of women’s involvement in wildlife trafficking, using multiple measures of human health and different roles for women in wildlife trafficking.
