Synopsis

As the Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, its causes and consequences, Reem Alsalem emphasizes, “climate change is an will undoubtedly be the most consequential phenomenon that dictates new and existing forms of gendered inequities, profoundly shaping the ways in which violence against women and girls manifests itself across societies and in different contexts, including in non-disaster, mid-disaster and post-disaster settings”. This report assesses the various manifestations of violence against women and girls in the context of the climate crisis, environmental degradation and related disaster risk mitigation and response and provides a set of 15 recommendations for states and other stakeholders to adopt.
