Environment and Gender Information inspires informed action

Data-driven change.

IUCN identifies and fills data gaps to inform more robust gender-responsive environmental policymaking and programming through its Environment and Gender Information (EGI) data and analyses. Related technical research and support on environment and gender statistics and indicators also guide measurable transformation.

Planting the right seeds: An analysis of gender considerations in REDD+ readiness documents under the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF)

This assessment has been conducted to identify and understand the degree to which gender considerations have been addressed in FCPF REDD+ readiness documents. Findings offer insights into the ways in which national governments and the FCPF itself are recognising gender considerations in the context of their REDD+ policymaking and planning with respect to key cross-cutting gender issues.

Indicators to drive progress toward meeting gender-environment linked goals

Limited collection, dissemination and application of gender-environment statistics affect the ability of decision makers and practitioners to develop and adopt well-informed and effective policies and programming. Working with partners from across the environment sector, IUCN advises and shapes gender indicators and data collection to unlock measurable transformative action.

Key indicator and statistics resource

IUCN’s partnership with the UN Environment Programme on gender and environment statistics underpins much of IUCN’s work on advising strengthened and new indicators to measure information for action and SDG achievements. IUCN provides tailored technical assistance to partners and projects, reviewing and advising on relevant indicators and methodologies.

Mainstreaming gender in environment statistics for the SDGs and beyond: Identifying priorities in Asia and the Pacific

This paper provides an overview of recent initiatives to measure the gender-environment nexus, identifies priorities and takes stock of related data and capacity gaps in the Asia-Pacific region. The paper puts forward a proposal for a Gender-Environment Indicator Set in Asia and the Pacific, which includes indicators from the global Sustainable Development Goals framework and beyond, capturing issues of particular relevance for the gender-environment nexus in the region.

Gender and Environment Statistics: Unlocking information for action and measuring the SDGs

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and UN Environment are collaborating to develop an enhanced understanding of and enabling environment for gender-environment statistics, particularly to identify specific indicators that can gather necessary information and strategies for national action as stakeholders work toward meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Advancing data through partnerships

In recent years, IUCN has partnered with diverse organizations to build tailored data and analyses for use in policymaking, implementation, and monitoring, evaluation and learning.

Gender and environment data and information is critical for measuring progress and informing action on gender-responsive sustainable development.
